Worldgame

Spin the globe and find the country: flag, capital, currency, motto…

A clue appears (name, flag, capital, currency or national motto) and you have to click the right country on a 3D globe, among the 194 UN members, micro-states included. The "nautical chart at night" art direction sets parchment-colored land on an ink-dark ocean, with a brass accent. You can choose a three.js globe or a pure-SVG Mercator world map, switch between French and English, and hear synthesized sounds whose pitch rises with each correct answer in a row.

What shines

  • Interactive 3D globe: on reveal, the camera swings to the right country and lights it in brass (the whole eurozone in currency mode)
  • Micro-states taken from the 1:10 data down to the Vatican, with zoom down to 0.01° wide; their markers fade out in favor of the real borders
  • Two interchangeable views: a three.js globe loaded on demand, or a dependency-free SVG world map (113 KB instead of 636 KB)
  • Five modes: name, flag, capital, currency, national motto (108 mottos checked by hand against the tourism slogans in Wikidata)
  • Dataset generated and cross-checked (Natural Earth + mledoze/countries), manual corrections, three fame levels ("Mainstream", "Off the beaten track", "Terra incognita")

How to use it

Choose the clue, length, difficulty and view (globe or world map), then spin the globe and click the country; "I give up" shows the answer
