Le Casse
Crack a safe by ear, without ever seeing the combination
Here the phone becomes the dial of a safe: hold it in front of you and turn it like a steering wheel to find the combination by feeling the notches, through sound and vibration. The screen never shows a number or a timer. All you see is the back room of a pawnshop swept by a flashlight beam, while the night watchman's footsteps draw closer in your headphones.
What shines
- No numbers, no dial, no timer on screen: you find the combination by touch and by ear, and time only passes through sound (a tightening sound bed, the watchman's footsteps, a dog, a gate)
- Cylindrical panorama painted in Canvas 2D (a "Quincaillerie du Canal 1971" poster, a "Bréhal & Fils, Paris 1931" brass plate, a metal shutter) revealed by a flashlight beam that lags with the inertia of your wrist, plus film grain and vignetting
- Homemade feedback engine, no library: notches and gates synthesized in Web Audio, vibration, generative ambience
- Pure lock model tested with Vitest, plus a Playwright bot that simulates the gyroscope and plays a full game until the safe opens
- Careful writing: first-person mission cards in Bodoni and Courier ("Two hundred and forty francs and a man's watch")
How to use it
On a phone, with sound on: tap "enter", hold the screen facing you and turn it slowly like a steering wheel; on a computer, scan the QR code.
